Hayle welcomes second Taiwanese language assistant

Following the arrival on Monday of Hsu-Ling Chung, the new Taiwanese teaching assistant at Huish Episcopi School, Somerset, today sees the second Mandarin-speaking teaching assistant touching down in the South West to deliver chinese lessons to pupils at Hayle Community School, Cornwall through Graham Watson's 'Broadening Horizons' scheme.

Commenting, Graham Watson said:

""I set-up the 'Broadening Horizons' scheme in 2006 because very few schools in the region offered chinese lessons. This scheme offers students a chinese taster, without a big financial burden for the school.

I am delighted that Hayle has signed up for a second year of 'Broadening Horizons'; with the increasing role China is playing in business and world affairs, pupils at the school will be better equipped for the world of work."

Chris Jackman, Head teacher at Hayle added:

"Hayle Community School is delighted to be welcoming Chen-Kuang, our second Taiwanese Teaching Assistant, to its doors later this week.

The school introduced Basic Mandarin to all pupils in Key Stage 3 last year and is pleased to be able to build on its experiences and indeed extend them to Key Stage 4 this year.

Following my visit to Taiwan in June we are intending to build a strong link with our partner school in Hualien and Chen-Kuang will be instrumental in this."
